We should make it so stupidly easy to vote that not voting is a misdemeanor – but without more of the emergent media and more noble entities within it, even this would be of little good and would soon turn into a morass.

The recent example in DC is a joke meant to bludgeon sensibilities and made up to deliberately Look built-to-spill.

It is technically possible to create a system for voting in all types of elections which is based on strong encryption and which would be universally check-able by any machine that wants to process the data.

An open source developed system that can be inspected by anyone in real-time, perhaps that is even made up of user’s hardware, thus delimiting corruption to physical localities (thus making it flaggable and ultimately something that can be isolated/identified and dealt with).

A system which, via simple, web-based methods, would replace the cumbersome and (quite frankly) broken elections system in the US.

The ability to vote via any networked intelligent device from a cell phone or game console to your pc/laptop, in and of itself would transform the very nature of elections.

This has never been more vital, that the people should directly elect, from a pool of the widest possible array, to public office those who best represent them – if we are to have representative democracy in this republic, then let us have a form which makes sense for our needs and which is efficient towards the ends of producing liberty and prosperity.

Indeed, I have elsewhere called for the migration of the federal structure down, into the states themselves and the expansion of the government in terms of participation, diminution in terms of cost and improved efficiency/localization – these ends are commensurate and complementary.

precisely such systems can replace the majority of the architecture, localization can ensure organic development and responsiveness of elected officials due to proximity/accessibility (good and bad! princes must be shot at after all and therefore should be in range ^_^), the superstructure can be drawn down to the state level, resulting in a more complete and less unwieldy public purse.

Additionally the reduction in overall cost will stimulate innovation.

We could set about expanding the role of the citizen and drawing the roles of public servant and citizen ever closer, until we have virtual democratic instrumentation where representatives are no longer necessary.

Participation of interested parties, mechanisms of transparency which rest firmly in the hands of the people and the prevailing international conditions alone shall describe whatever function was previously ascribed to a federal government.

The states will cooperate towards a common end as a republic, it is that simple.

Even specific functions like creation of the money supply, regulation of banking infrastructure and securing of national defense objectives can be developed via cooperative efforts and information technology.

Our military no longer needs to be encumbered by a bureaucratic/centralized system, it can function as a highly-engineered nodal network of interests empowered by the states via the people as it was intended.

To this end the very Theme of mandatory voting and personal responsibility is efficacious – are we not paladins?
